Flood Insurance
In the event of a flood, having flood insurance will be entirely beneficial for you. Flood insurance will cover direct physical losses made to the structure of your home and your personal items. We offer flood insurance here at Cabrera Insurance Agency in Texas.
Flood Insurance Requirements
Texas doesn’t require homeowners to obtain flood insurance legally. However, if your home is located in a flood zone considered “high-risk,” you may want to consider purchasing flood coverage. Your mortgage lender may even require you to obtain coverage if your home is also located in a high-risk zone.
Flood Insurance Coverage
If you choose to purchase flood insurance, you can feel confident and rested knowing that the things you value will remain protected no matter what occurs. Flood insurance includes two different types of coverage- contents coverage and building coverage.
The following are covered under building coverage:
- Electrical and plumbing systems
- Water heaters and furnaces
- Cooking stoves, refrigerators, and built-in appliances
- Installed carpeting that is permanent
- Cabinets, bookcases, and paneling are permanently installed
- Window blinds
- Detached garages
- Staircases, anchorage systems, and foundation walls
- Fuel tanks, well water tanks and pumps, and solar energy equipment
The following are covered under contents coverage:
- Curtains
- Washers and dryers
- Personal items including furniture, clothing, and electronic equipment
- Microwave ovens
- Window and portable air conditioners
- Valuable items, including furs and artwork
- Carpets that are not included in building coverage
Keep in mind that flood insurance coverage means you will be covered for any loss directly resulting from flooding. Flooding is an excess amount of water on land that is typically dry that affects at least two or more acres of land or at least two properties.
